While the deadline has passed for many scholarships, did you know that there are others that are still available? Many of these scholarships are tied specifically to colleges or to educations centers.

One example is the Ira Cobe Hutchinson Center Scholarship, which is available to students who are attending college through the Hutchinson Center in Belfast. As the description from the Maine Community Foundation site reads:

The Ira Cobe Scholarship Trust was established by the estate of Chicago financier and longtime Bayside summer resident Ira M. Cobe. Mr. Cobe and his wife, a Belfast native, had a deep affection for Maine’s young people. The fund provides support in meeting certain educational expenses of residents of Waldo County under the age of 23 who meet the eligibility criteria. The Cobe Hutchinson Center Program is a partnership with first-time students at the Hutchinson Center who are taking a class to explore the possibility of furthering their education.

One of the best ways to help control college costs is through scholarships and grants. While most scholarships have deadlines that fall between February and May, there are others that you can apply for year round. For example, if you are going to Kennebec Valley Community College, it is encouraged that you apply for their Foundation Scholarship prior to August 15. Not sure what scholarships are available to you? There are a lot of search engines out there, and it can be hard to figure out which are the best. One site that you can trust is the Finance Authority of Maine Website. Their Maine Scholarship search engine is a fast and easy way to find scholarships that may fit for you.
