Maine Educational Opportunity Center Celebrates – UMaine 2022 Veterans Week Nov. 7–11, 2022
In recognition of UMaine Veterans Week MEOC would like to celebrate US Army Veteran – Myles Ouellette!
Myles enlisted in the US Army when he was 19 years old. He served proudly and came home injured. While recovering Myles found himself addicted to opiates which led to his incarceration. It was in prison that Myles learned about the Maine Educational Opportunity Center. His MEOC Advisor helped him identify and overcome barriers to his return to higher education.
Myles earned a bachelor’s degree in applied science from the University of Maine Augusta and went on to complete his master’s in business administration with a concentration in health care management from Husson University.
Myles currently works in Van Buren as a Clinical Case Manager and formerly as Business Development Manager for Groups Recover Together, an opioid treatment network.
As an alumnus of the Maine Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC), Myles was selected by the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) to represent all EOC students as part of their 50thanniversary of Educational Opportunity Centers in the United States. COE sent a film crew to Maine to capture his story. (Myles is the second story in the video posted below.)
